September 25, 2024: Tonglen Meditation





Tonglen meditation is an ancient Tibetan Buddhist practice focused on cultivating compassion. The term “tonglen” translates to “sending and taking” or "giving and receiving" Here’s a brief overview of how it works:


Breathing Technique: As you inhale, you visualize taking in the suffering, pain, and negativity of others. As you exhale, you imagine sending out light, compassion, and well-being to them.


Visualization: This practice often involves visualizing dark smoke or clouds representing suffering being inhaled, and bright light or warmth representing compassion being exhaled.


Stages of Practice: It can start with focusing on a specific person or situation and gradually expand to include all beings.


Tonglen is a powerful way to develop empathy and a compassionate heart, making it a valuable practice for both spiritual and everyday life.
